Spiritualized Space Project

Following Youth Lagoon’s “Worms”, Spiritualized (under the moniker Spiritualized Mississippi Space Program) is the next track we’re sharing from our upcoming Space Project release. Utilizing sounds and concepts from the Neptune planet, “Always Forgetting With You (The Bridge Song)” is streaming now over at Pitchfork. Space Project drops on April 19 in honor of Record Store Day, more info and full tracklist can be found below.

Last Thanksgiving, Matt Halverson, who runs the Portland-based label Lefse Records, was talking with his brother in law, Exogenesis President and Chief Scientist Sean Anklam, who described a trove of recordings the NASA-launched Voyager space probes had made in the outer solar system. Halverson, the Walter White to Anklam’s Hank Schrader, was overtaken by an idea: to commission imaginative artists to create songs and soundscapes out of the Voyager recordings. The interest among musicians—including , Spiritualized, Beach House, The Antlers, Mutual Benefit, Blues Control and others—was overwhelming. Lefse will release the resulting album, entitled Space Project, on April 19, Record Store Day. It will be available on vinyl, CD, and as a 7” box set.

The audio tracks that form the raw material for Space Project were recorded by the Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 space probes that NASA launched in 1977 and still uses to study the outer solar system. The satellites carry numerous instruments fine-tuned to record in different portions of the electromagnetic spectrum. The “sounds” recorded by the Voyager probes aren’t sounds in the conventional sense; rather, they are electromagnetic radiation fluctuations in the magnetosphere of the planets, moons and large asteroids the Voyager probes traveled near. Each celestial body is composed of different elements, has its own size and mass, and therefore sounds unique.

Each Other - couch

Each Other has announced a near two-month tour spanning the U.S. and Canada that will support the release of their debut album Being Elastic, which drops on March 4! Pre-order the album here. More about the release and full tour dates below.

Recorded to tape in their home-built studio in Montreal between tours across Canada, Europe and the U.S., Being Elastic is a document of a band always trying to move further out in terms of songwriting and production. Initial recordings were shelved in favor of starting over, as new songs piled up and intra-band shreddery intensified. The restless energy that defines their work habits shows up everywhere in their music. The songs have a solid foundation in avant-rock-pop traditions but are thwarted from sounding like any kind of reverent tribute to what’s come before by being adventurous and exploratory. Surprise breaks, abrupt left-turns, tangled riffage, sidelong-glancing lyrics and Space Echo murk all punctuate the full-throated harmonies, artful melody and bright, ringing tone that makes up the core of these songs. At every turn, this is a record that sounds forward-looking but not futuristic, meticulously constructed but not formulaic or predictable. It’s the sound of three people working hard on their own terms, without a promo budget or obnoxious social media hustling, to make a record that speaks for itself.

Teen Daze - EU Tour 2014

Teen Daze is heading out on the road for a slew of slows in Europe! For this upcoming EU tour, Jamison intends to showcase selections from his whole catalog, including both originals and remixes. The performance is a journey; danceable at times, quiet and contemplative at others. A true expression of the deep well of music that Teen Daze has shared with the world.

The last two years have been busy for Jamison of Teen Daze: three LPs released, several EPs and singles, and months of touring throughout North America and Europe. With each step, Teen Daze has matured from its humble bedroom-project beginnings, to a fully-formed, diverse, musical expression. Always shifting sounds, trying never to repeat himself, Jamison has carved out his own unique voice in the world of electronic music; whether it’s the synth-laden, utopian dreams of “All of Us, Together”, the inward-searching, spiritual dream pop of “The Inner Mansions” or the exploration into the frozen post-rock wilderness of “Glacier”.
